Contra dancing is a participatory social dance with roots in New England, and distant ancestry in British and European dances. Partners dance with each other and with other couples of dancers in a long line of dance couples. Dances are taught and called by a caller, and are generally performed to live music. The dance uses a walking step, with very few fancy steps.
The best way to get a sense of what contra dancing is all about it to come to a dance! The next best way is to watch a video.

The Toronto Contra Dance is a volunteer-run community dance group. We host regular dances in Toronto.
Our dance is inclusive, welcoming, and family-friendly. We are a gender-inclusive community, and we use gender-role-free dance terminology. Read more about Larks and Robins dancing here.
